Floating Harbour is a Bristol film production company making social media films for businesses, charities and public bodies across the UK. We make social-first shoot days that yield a month of short films, campaign films built for sharing, LinkedIn films for business audiences, founder and expert pieces to camera, event content cut for the feed, and vertical and square versions of every film we make.
Social content is not a different craft with lower standards. A fifteen-second film still needs an idea, a face people believe, sound you can hear and a first two seconds that earn the next ten. What changes is the volume and the pace, so we plan a shoot to give you many films rather than one, and we design them for the platform they will live on rather than cropping a widescreen film afterwards.
Social media films we make
Social-first shoot days. A planned day, in your workplace or our studio, designed to yield a library of short films: interviews, pieces to camera, vox pops, behind-the-scenes, cutaways and stills, delivered captioned and in the right formats so your team can post for weeks.
Campaign films for social. Where a campaign lives on social we shoot for it, with the pace, framing and hooks the platforms reward. See the Consol social media campaign, a large studio shoot turned into a run of adverts and short films for a national chain; the Gympanzees campaign films, parent stories built for sharing that launched the appeal for a centre for disabled children; One Step Greener for the Cabinet Office, a series of short profile films made for social media and the big screens at COP26; and The Lodge for Bristol Zoo, a promotional film that was shared far beyond the zoo's own channels.
LinkedIn films for business audiences. Short, well-lit, properly recorded films for organisations whose customers are other organisations: customer stories, opinions, explainers and announcements, with the person who knows the subject on camera saying something worth hearing.
Event content for social. Same-day clips and highlights from conferences, launches and awards, so the event is on the feed while people are still talking about it. See the social content from Energising Britain at M Shed and the Whitley Awards 2024 social cutdowns.
Cutdowns and versions. Every brand film, commercial, documentary and event film we make can come with vertical and square versions, sound-off edits with captions, and fifteen and six-second cuts for paid social. We plan them before the shoot, not after, and we can make them from footage you already have.
How we work with your social team
Most of our social work is for organisations with an in-house marketing or communications team, or an agency, who run the channels and need better material than a phone can give them. You bring the plan and the calendar; we make the films to it, and we will tell you what each film is for when we deliver it. If you would rather hand more of it over, we can plan and manage a social campaign with you, from the content calendar to the edits, so ask.
For organisations that want a steady supply, we offer content days on a fixed monthly or quarterly fee: a planned shoot, a library of captioned films in every format you need, and a look at what worked before the next one.
Frequently asked questions
How much does social media video production cost?
Content days start from £1,000 a month. A one-off social-first shoot day, finished into a library of twenty to forty short films, is usually between £3,000 and £6,000 depending on crew and location. Cutdowns and vertical versions added to a film we are already making are a small addition to that film. Tell us the channels and how often you need to post and we will suggest a plan.
Do you post the content or run the channels?
Usually your team or your agency does, and we deliver the films captioned, in the right formats, with a note on what each one is for. If you need us to plan or manage a campaign as well, talk to us.
Can you shoot vertical?
Yes, and when vertical is the main output we shoot for it rather than cropping afterwards.
Can you make social films from footage we already have?
Yes. Cutdowns, captioned versions and re-edits of existing films are part of our editing and post-production service.
How quickly can you turn event content around?
Same day for short clips and highlights when it is planned in; a full highlights film within the week.
Do you make LinkedIn videos?
Yes. Short interview and piece-to-camera films for LinkedIn are a large part of what we make for business clients, filmed in your offices or in our studio in central Bristol.
Where this fits
Social media films sit alongside brand films, corporate films, commercials and live streaming and event production, and most of our studio filming days now include social content. For the full range, see all the films we make.
