One Step Greener
For COP 26, The Cabinet Office commissioned Floating Harbour to make a series of short films celebrating climate leaders making a grass-roots difference to the climate crisis.
ONE STEP GREENER was designed to raise the profile of individuals in communities and organisations who are taking steps to make an impact on carbon reduction.
We were responsible for the South of England films, as well as formatting and motion graphic design for the roll out of film production being carried out by other production companies across the country.
The films were promoted through social media as well as being played out on large screens at various locations at COP 26 itself.

Cabinet Office
This is the world's first iron ship, and we need to keep the metal as dry as the Arizona desert. Otherwise, the ship will simply rust away. We use this curtain of air to keep the surface of the ship dry, and since 2018, I've been working on a project to reduce the amount of energy that it takes to generate. We've installed these sensors all around the ship, and I'm analysing the data from them to get our two huge dehumidifiers running as efficiently as possible.
Right now, we're installing a new type of greener fan technology and an energy recovery device which will help to reduce the gas and electricity consumption of our dehumidifiers. With the COP26 summit in the UK this year, it's more important than ever that we all work together to go one step greener.

I'm motivated by environmental justice and empowering communities. Repowering works with local communities to plan, fund and build their low carbon futures. We deliver community-owned solar power stations. We tackle fuel poverty, we deliver innovation projects and we deliver training and work experience for young people.
At Repowering, we've set up eight solar co-ops across the city and at Westway Sports Centre, we've installed 500 solar panels on a single site alone. All our schemes are funded by the local community so we're not only creating clean green electricity but the investors are getting a return on their money and we're creating funds for local benefit. If we can achieve all this in an inner-city environment you can help your community go one step further.

It's very much obvious to us that the tides are getting higher and that puts us very much at risk. This ship's special because she has the hybrid battery system which enables us to operate the timetable without utilizing as much fuel by using fewer generators. In Port alone the vessel saves 140 tons of fuel a year compared to our other vessels and on the crossings we save an average of 5% fuel. I come on regularly to speak to the masters to make sure they're always operating the ship at the most efficient and economical way possible.
My ultimate desire would be to have an all-electric ferry. That's what the company is looking at the moment. I'm heavily involved in the design. COP26 takes place right here in the UK.
I think this has to be the focus for whether you drive a boat, a car or a plane for us all to come together and stop climate change.
Cabinet Office (film 3)
This is the year of COP26 and this is the year to get serious about climate change. The University of Gloucestershire has been a pioneer and a leader of bringing sustainability into the heart of the higher education sector. I'm now working on our net zero carbon emissions strategy through to 2030. We've got some great heat decarbonisation projects coming online next year and the one I like the most is that we're going to get the old boiler out of our beautiful heritage chapel and put in a new low carbon heat pump.
We are now looking at the whole indirect impact of how we operate as a university. So everything from what we purchase and what's in the supply chain to how we all travel and commute between our campuses. It's all about different thinking and new ideas. That's what we need to go one step greener.

To accelerate our progress towards our sector leading net zero by 2030 goal, I applied for a public sector decarbonisation grant, which will help us make significant carbon and energy savings. With our ambitious target of achieving net zero by 2030, we've had to progress very, very quickly. At the stations I manage, we've installed a number of different systems, including the electric vehicle charging points and the resulting vehicle you can see behind me, solar PV systems and solar thermal systems on the roof, LED lighting within the station, including proximity sensors and soon to install air source heat pumps. Going forward, we have a plan to undertake a trial period of electric fire engines within the next 12 to 24 months.
People don't normally think of the fire service as being climate leaders. We've made huge progress and if we can make the change, then anyone can.
