Living Well with Cancer
Floating Harbour is proud to have partnered with Drummer TV to produce a series of deeply personal and authoritative films for Penny Brohn focused on their "Living Well" approach to cancer care.
Our collaboration focused on capturing authentic patient experiences and the expertise of Penny Brohn’s clinical and wellbeing teams. By utilising a documentary-style approach, we created high-impact visual resources that help the charity communicate its holistic message to patients, families, and healthcare professionals alike.
We started working with Penny Brohn in 2015, producing the films with Drummer Television as an introduction to the charity for prospective patients and donors. One of them, the Health and Wellbeing video, was shown to patients at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, where the charity gathered positive feedback from the first group who saw it. In 2019 we went back to re-edit one of the films with replacement footage for the charity's marketing team.

I thought that cancer care was divided into two camps, and there was the conventional way of treating it and then a more holistic way, and that the two didn't meet. And through Penny Brohn, I found that you can get support for both sides. It brings it together, so it's not separate to your conventional treatment, but you can also get support for how to look after yourself better and do things that will supplement your health while you're having the conventional treatment. When you go just through the medical profession bit of it, you get all the treatments and everything, but nobody looks at you as a whole person and nobody sort of thinks, right, what does this person need now other than the treatment we've given them?
It's such a big thing to go through, is that at the end of it, you do need someone there to help you to get through the emotional side of it, because it affects every aspect of your life, and not just you as an individual, your partner, your children, extended family. Everybody's impacted so much by what you're going through. When you walk through the doors of Penny Brohn it's almost like you can be yourself. You don't have to be anyone else.
You don't have to be that person that has to protect others. I don't have to self-edit when I come here. I don't have to think about what I say. I actually felt more empowered because meeting other people that had made changes, knowing that this was something that I wanted to do, was really, I think, life-saving when I look back.
When you have the support that Penny Brohn gives, it feels much more manageable, and you can see a way forward with all the things that you learn here. Penny Brohn is a beautiful place to go. It's in a lovely house outside Pill. It's a very relaxing, calming, supportive, inspirational place to go.
Why wouldn't you want to go there? It's like going to heaven. It's magical. And it's had a huge effect on me and everyone who goes there.
Because it has changed who I am. It's changed my outlook on cancer. It's changed my outlook on myself, and it's helped me deal with cancer. It's helped me live with cancer, and so I recommend it to everybody.
