Network Rail Leader Business Simulation
As a core component of the Network Rail interactive digital programme, we developed a suite of bespoke motion graphics and animations to bring clarity to high-level concepts. These visual assets were designed to provide essential context for the business simulation where live-action filming was not possible due to safety or logistical constraints. By creating a coherent and sophisticated design language that ran throughout the programme, we ensured that complex data and infrastructure narratives were both accessible and engaging for every delegate.

Welcome to the Network Rail Leader Program Business Simulation. This simulation provides an opportunity to practise the skills, knowledge, and behaviour you have learned on the Network Rail Leader Program. It will enable you to reflect on how you prioritise and make decisions, interpret and communicate information, and have the mindset of a proactive leader. This simulation is not a technical assessment.
There is no pressure to know the technically right answer. Your challenge today is to approach the situations you are presented with from your role as a leader and manager. The program will be delivered via iPads that will be supplied to you. Information and instructions will provide you all you need to continue through the program.
To navigate through the program, press the forwards train icon. If you want to go back at any time, press the back train icon. This icon here is for when there is additional information available on a particular task. When this is the case, the icon will go orange and a one will be visible.
When you have read through this information, just click the cross in the top right corner to close the window and return to the current page. In some cases, teams will experience the challenges in a different order. Some scenarios will have time pressure. This reflects the time constraints you often face in your roles, which test your leadership and management behaviours and skills.
In some challenges, you will be interacting with actors. They will stretch you in a supportive way and can adapt their style, character, and approach based on your request. They are professional role players who understand the Network Rail environment and challenges. The facilitator or the actors may call a time-out.
You can do this too. During a time-out, the actors will step out of character and support you to reset an interaction, clarify an objective, or provide feedback and coaching. Be open to feedback and be respectful of each other's participation. This is a great opportunity to support each other's leadership development.
